While the US is having its current drama about events that may or may not have happened at a high school party 30+ years ago, an actual important drama is brewing and being ignored.

“We’re accumulating risk in the Middle East by not getting at Iran’s proliferation,” [Brian Hook, the State Department's special representative for Iran] said. “There is something brazen about this missile behaviour, they’re not even hiding it. This sort of escalation is deeply concerning..."

"The Iranians have to decide are they a nation state or a revolution,” [The Saudi foreign minister] said, underlining that Iran had diverted virtually all its additional revenues from the removal of sanctions into its regional agenda, including support for the Houthi rebellion.

“If a missile is launched at Saudi Arabia and UAE what will be reaction be and how will we be defended?” said UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba.

Maybe we could ask if the government can spend a few minutes considering this when they get done with their he-said, she-said partisan argument?

It is impossible to know whether this post at Al-Emirati.com on the victims of the recent Air India disaster is intended to be some appalling attempt at humour or satire, but by every single measure it is absolutely beyond the pale:

Not really. Not only do I not care if the victims "rest in peace" but it seems to me that they are, rather, resting in pieces!

I am of course talking about flight IX 812 from Dubai to Balglapour (or some other hell hole, they're all the same) that recently crashed (click here)

I know I know. Mean, blah blah. The way I see it is as follows. The UAE is (about) 50% Indians, Something that I, and 90% of all other Emaratis see as a bad thing.

This plane, carrying Indians who live and work here, means that 160 indians that clog up the roads, cause accidents, fail code inspections at Indian restaurants, speak like this guy, and are a general drag on the security of the UAE, wont be coming back. That is a very GOOD thing!

I can only pray that this happens every week!

Sadly, we'll probably have 160 new VISAs for 160 new Indians issued in 3 hours... And the authority in charge of this will flaunt that, as if it's a good thing.

Mocking the victims of a plane crash disaster on the grounds of their race and glorying in their tragic deaths is simply inhumane.

In fact, it is evil.

Some ticket categories have had luggage allowances reduced by up to 5kg…

Planning on booking an Emirates flight? You might want to know about their recent baggage allowance changes then as certain fare types have had their checked baggage allowance reduced by 5kg.

The allowances have been reduced on two of Emirates’ four economy ticket types: Special and Saver tickets.

Special tickets reduced from a 20kg allowance to 15kg, and anyone traveling on Saver tickets can now take 25kg of checked luggage, rather than 30kg.

ALSO READ: Many Emirates flights to be cancelled or rescheduled with DXB runway closure

Flex and Flex Plus ticket baggage allowances will remain the same, at 30kg and 35kg respectively. Hand luggage will also remain the same, at 7kg.

First Class and Business Class baggage allowances will remain the same at 40kg for Business, and 50kg for First.

The new weight allowances apply to all fights, except routes to and from the Americas, and flights originating from Africa. Special tickets for flights from the UAE to India will also have a 25kg allowance, rather than 15kg.

So, what is the difference in the ticket types?

Well, all four (Special, Saver, Flex and Flex Plus) are economy, so you get the exact same seat style and leg room on the plane, the major difference is the flexibility of the ticket. Typically Special and Saver are the lowest price tickets, but also mean they cannot be refunded, or changing the flight details is more expensive.

It’s worth noting that the new rates only came into effect on tickets booked after February 4, so if you booked your Special or Saver tickets for flights after those dates but before February 4, you’ll still be able to take advantage of the higher luggage allowance.

You can read all about the changes here.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has affirmed More...

I'm forever blowing bubbles
Property bubbles in the sand
They grow so fast, obviously can't last
But why do I care, I still own the land
People keep on buying
I take all their cash
Oh, I'm forever blowing bubbles
And bubbles always crash

"Nowadays, ten months after the financial crisis came crashing in on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), nearly destroying its shiniest component, Dubai, hundreds of cranes and dredgers have yet to resume work. The Queen Elizabeth II, once the world’s smartest liner, due to become yet another posh Dubai hotel, is a sleeping quayside hulk. Nothing is happening on three of the most recently man-made islands shaped like palm trees off Dubai’s coast that were the latest flashy projects of Nakheel, the emirate’s shaky real-estate developer."
